Walking in the fine drizzle of Zhouzhuang

It is said that March is one of the best times to visit Zhouzhuang. In this damp and foggy season, the quiet southeast ancient town calms and relaxes the soul. The town resembles a hazy fairytale and will remain in one’s memories forever.

I came to Zhouzhuang on a rainy day and couldn't help but remembering the Dai Wangshu poem entitled "The rainy alley". The dolorous girl described in his poem stirred within me and I found myself lost in the transparent silk web of drizzle.

I walked on the flagged path along the water. With the breeze kissing my face, the fish playing below and the aroma from the sprouting buds, I felt at peace. I came to the double bridge that resembled a crescent moon emerging from the river. The breeze rippled the water in the beautiful moonlight. The willows were pouring out the youth of the river and singing a song of life. One or two small fish boats went through the bridge now and then, splashing up water from the paddles.

In the misty rain, the town shows its true beauty. Shabby Chinese characters carved on doors give one a glimpse into the history of Zhouzhuang.
